Saturday 28th February 2026 saw us hosting hundreds of darts players in a charity darts event, raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Support Trust.
The event was in two parts:
A "Knockout Cup",
and a "9 Dart Challenge"
A charity raffle was also held.

It was all organised by Veran Tull, one of the players in our Stanway Rovers Darts Team.
Veran will be running in the 2026 London Marathon on Sunday 26th April - on behalf of the Macmillan Cancer Support Trust. He will be carrying a dart board on his back and will be stopping at every mile marker on the 26.2 mile (42.195 km) route for a "throw of darts". He will ask a member of the public at each mile marker to hold the board for him - while he then throws three darts at the board (magnetic or velcro darts of course, for safety). He will then strap the dart board back onto his back - and set off for the next mile marker. Every score will be recorded and the final total will be used to generate another donation the Macmillan Trust.
"Why Macmillan Trust" you ask?
Just over two years ago Veran's wife made him go to the doctor to get a new mole checked out that Veran wasn't too bothered about. This small, innocuous blemish turned out to be quite an aggressive Melanoma that required multiple operations, long stays in hospital and immunotherapy treatment.
The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing. The Macmillan Cancer Support Trust are doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are.
"Why darts" you ask?
Veran picked up a set of darts at the start of his long treatment and recovery journey to keep himself busy and to distract his mind from the bad thoughts that could, and sometimes did, pop into his head. Veran recognises that darts has been brilliant for his mental health during this difficult period and seemed the natural choice to include it within his challenge of completing the London Marathon.
