On a lively afternoon at The FND & KMCO Community Stadium, Stanway Rovers faced Enfield FC in a pre-season friendly on July 26, 2025, delivering a competitive 1-1 draw that showcased both teams’ potential for the upcoming 25/26 season. Fresh off their Essex Senior League title and promotion, Stanway Rovers, under manager Jamie Shaw, demonstrated resilience and attacking intent against a spirited Enfield side.

The match began with Stanway asserting early pressure. In the opening minutes, a dynamic run from Trialist A earned a penalty shout, waved away by the referee, setting the tone for an aggressive start. Stanway’s persistence paid off in the 32nd minute when Joe Debell was fouled in the penalty area, leading to a penalty. Trialist B confidently stepped up and slotted the ball past Enfield’s keeper, giving Stanway a 1-0 lead. Moments later, goalkeeper Robinson proved his worth with a crucial save, denying a header from Enfield’s number 20 to preserve the advantage. Stanway’s defense, led by the experienced Joe Turpin, held firm, thwarting Enfield’s attempts to equalize before halftime.

The second half saw Stanway maintain their momentum, starting strongly with multiple chances as they pressed Enfield’s defense. However, Enfield, found their rhythm up top through multiple chances down in the Stanway end. Despite their dominance, Stanway conceded, with Enfield leveling the score at 1-1 in the 60th minute. The equalizer shifted the game’s dynamics, setting up a tense final half-hour. By the 65th minute, Stanway made tactical changes, bringing on Cooper and Jamie Bennett for Debell and Trialist B to inject fresh energy into the side.

As the match progressed, Stanway continued to pile on pressure. Substitutions in the 76th minute saw Harris and Andrews replace Barnett and Tarbard, boosting their defensive options. By the 80th minute, Stanway’s relentless pressure kept Enfield’s keeper busy, while their defense remained solid, clearing any threats from the visitors. In the closing stages, Stanway pushed for a winner. In the 89th minute, a corner taken by Maycock led to a chance for Key, whose effort inside the six-yard box went agonizingly wide. Despite their late surge, Stanway couldn’t find the decisive goal, and the match ended 1-1.

This hard-fought draw highlighted Stanway Rovers’ attacking flair and defensive resilience, with Trialist B, Debell, and Robinson standing out. Enfield FC, meanwhile, showed their competitiveness, setting the stage for an exciting 2025-26 season.
