Stanway Rovers are saddened to announce that Peter Cracknell passed away on Sunday the 11th February 2024 with his family at his side. Peter had been involved with Stanway from the 1970’s when, after refereeing a local fixture, he would pop in for post match refreshment. Peter became involved with Stanway Rovers shortly after joining the management committee. During his time with Stanway he held the positions of Treasurer, General Secretary and then Chairman. Peter was also a trustee of the loan during the construction of the New Club Premises. Peter worked tirelessly for the club and was ever present at work parties, helping to create the pitch (stone picking etc). He was also the club quiz master on many occasions plus participating in numerous other tasks. Peter will be sorely missed by all at Stanway Rovers. All our thoughts are with Jill and the family. Peters Funeral will take place on Friday 15th March at Colchester Crematorium at 1-45pm. Stanway Rovers are very sad to announce the passing of former chairman Peter Cracknell. Peter, whose passing was announced by his family yesterday (Sunday 11th February) took over the chairmanship of Stanway Rovers in June 2000. Details of his funeral are not yet available.

Live music will be provided at this event by the popular local band "Broken Watch". Formed at Colbayns High School, Clacton, Broken Watch performed their first live gig on 23rd September 2003.  Since then they have performed over 90 gigs, mainly in Essex and Suffolk.  They have even played at The Cavern Club, Liverpool (home of the 1960's world famous English Rock Band, The Beatles). They have performed for us several times at Stanway Rovers Football Club and we are very pleased to welcome them back to us in this, their 21st year, as they are an outstanding local talent.
