- COMING SOON - NON LEAGUE DAY
Put it in your diaries, the 23rd of March 2024 is Non League Day. The following is a quote from "Home - non league football (nonleagueday.co.uk)". Follow this link for more information about Non League Day. "Non-League Day was set up by James Doe in 2010 as a social media experiment, after being inspired by a pre-season trip to Devon to watch Queens Park Rangers play at Tavistock. It has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly the non-league clubs themselves and the fans who turn up on the day. "Always scheduled to coincide with an international break, Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer-led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for their local non-league side. "Many non-league clubs are almost exclusively volunteer run, with money taken at the turnstiles often funding thriving youth set-ups, projects and facilities which are of benefit to the whole community. The level of skill on offer at non-league grounds might not be the same as that at the Etihad Stadium or Stamford Bridge, for example, but there are other sides to the experience, from which the smaller club will always win hands down. "The vast majority of games still kick off at 3pm, ticket prices are realistic, you can often stand (and drink!) anywhere in the ground and will always be guaranteed a warm welcome by people who run their clubs for a love of the game. "Whether you’re a Premier League or Championship fan without a game, a League One or League Two supporter who can’t make an away trip, or just someone who is curious about what their local club has to offer, there is sure to be something to interest everyone." ------------------- We’ll be charging £5 on the day, if you wish to pay the usual £8 we’ll donate the extra £3 to @ProstateCancerUK Stanway Rovers First v Great Wakering Essex Senior Football League, Premier Division 3PM KO The Hawthorns | CO3 0PG (A) £5 | (C) £5 | U18s £1 | Rovers YFC Players FREE Clubhouse Open #ScranWay Burger Bar Open #NonLeagueDay #ESL #ProstateCancerUK

- FAMILY AND FRIENDS PAY RESPECTS TO PETER CRACKNELL
15th of March saw Stanway Rovers hosting the wake after the cremation service at Colchester Crematorium for our beloved friend, Peter Cracknell, who passed away on Sunday the 11th February 2024 with his family at his side. The service room at the crematorium was full to the rafters, with all seats taken and many standing in the aisle and at the back, for the very moving service. After the service, Stanway Rovers was very honoured to host the wake, with over 150 members of Peter's family and his friends in attendance. A fantastic spread of food was laid out for our departed friend, with a complimentary glass of port upon arrival. Goodbye Peter, gone, but not forgotten. You will be sorely missed by all who knew you. All our thoughts are with Gill and the family.
- U18 TNL TOP OF THE TABLE HOME WIN AGAINST HALSTEAD
Stanway Rovers U18 TNL 1 Halstead Town Youth U18 0 After a 2-2 draw earlier in the season, 14th of March saw a top of the table clash for our U18 TNL team against league leaders Halstead Town. A late pitch inspection gave the all clear for the match to take place. Our lads could have put it to bed earlier with a couple of good chances, rattling the bar with one, and a latte rally by the Halstead lads gave us a bit of a nervy finish, but the boys held on for a well deserved 1 - 0 home win. - PETER CRACKNELL - FUNERAL DETAILS
Today is the "Final Whistle" for a long term stalwart at Stanway Rovers Football Club as, today, we say a loving goodbye to one of our own, Peter Cracknell. Peter Cracknell passed away on Sunday the 11th February 2024 with his family at his side. He had been involved with Stanway from the 1970’s when, after refereeing a local fixture, he would pop in for post match refreshment. He became involved with Stanway Rovers shortly after joining the management committee. During his time with Stanway he held the positions of Treasurer, General Secretary and then Chairman. Peter was also a trustee of the loan during the construction of the New Club Premises. He worked tirelessly for the club and was ever present at work parties, helping to create the pitch (stone picking etc). He was also the club quiz master on many occasions plus participating in numerous other tasks. Peter will be sorely missed by all at Stanway Rovers. All our thoughts are with Jill and the family. Peters Funeral will take place today, Friday 15th March, at Colchester Crematorium at 1-45pm. His wake will follow at Stanway Rovers Football Club, 50 New Farm Road, Colchester, CO3 OPG Colchester Crematorium - what3words: filled.start.smart Stanway Rovers Football Club - what3words: supper.lions.coffee
