Dick Degville

Message from the chairman of Stanway Rovers Football Club.

"It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Club President, Mr Richard (Dick) Degville. Dick left us early on the morning of Monday 20th October 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was the heartbeat of Stanway Rovers, a true legend who dedicated his life to our club. From humble beginnings in the Colchester and District League to our current standing, Dick was the driving force behind our progression. He wore many hats – team manager, club secretary, and ultimately, club president – but his passion and commitment remained unwavering.

His tireless efforts secured the lease for our cherished home, The Hawthorns, and he played a pivotal role in building our clubhouse, a hub of community and camaraderie. Dick's larger-than-life personality, infectious enthusiasm, and generosity of spirit touched us all.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Dick's family during this incredibly difficult time. He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on through the club he loved and served so devotedly."
